Steps to Multiply Geraniums Using Cuttings
Select and cut the stems
Choose healthy, firm, and thick stems. Cut just above the second leaf node from the top (where the leaves sprout).
Prepare the cuttings
Remove leaves and shoots from the lower half of the cutting. Cut the bottom end just below a node, where the plant naturally produces rooting hormones.
Dip in rooting hormone (optional)
For better success, dip the base of each cutting in rooting hormone.
Prepare the pots
Fill pots with a mix of seedling potting mix and sand to improve drainage. Place 2-3 cuttings per pot, water well, and keep the pots in a well-lit indoor spot. Avoid covering with plastic to prevent mold growth.
Wait for roots to develop
After a few weeks, the cut wounds will heal and roots will begin to form. Within 6-8 weeks, the cuttings should have a strong root system.
Transplant and care
Transplant each cutting into individual pots with regular potting soil. Keep the soil moist and, in the following weeks, you can plant the geraniums wherever you like.
